Were you raised by your Grandparents?

in For Fellows by Fellows, New York, Social Issues

Leon Clowes, a UK Fellow and recipient of a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship, will be in New York City in April.  His research looks at grandparents raising their grandchildren.  He’s  particularly keen to meet adults who were raised by grandparents and their reflections on their life experiences.  Leon was raised by his grandparents himself and wants to document the stories of others.

Whether you are in New York or elsewhere, Leon would love to hear from you.  Leon.clowes@gmail.com

Thank you so much Lynn, and I’ve already had a fantastic response.

My 6 week trip across the US goes from New York to Boston, Denver, New Orleans, Dallas, Chicago and finally to San Francisco, starting April 11 until May 23.

I’d be keen to hear from anyone who was – or knows – adults raised by their grandparents. Similarly, professionals working in kinship care, or grandparents raising their grandchildren themselves.

Thank you

I’m raising my granddaughter, age 6 1/2. Have my MSW and have worked for CYFD with numerous grandparents working on getting custody.

One pet beef I have is children’s books, which still almost entirely focus on the “traditional” family.

If you go through New Mexico and want to meet, let me know.

Patricia, I would be very interested to speak with you, would you send me a landline number and good time / day to reach you via my email please? leon.clowes@gmail.com, thank you.

Not sure I’m travelling that close to you, depending on where you are in New Mexico – Denver, Dallas and New Orleans.
