At CCI’s recent annual Symposium on Reputation, CCOs presented their initiatives to adapt their corporate communications to the current volatile business and communication environment [www.corporatecomm.org/archive]. At this CCI briefing, Michael B. Goodman and Peter B. Hirsch will follow-up as authors of the newly published book, Corporate Communication: Strategic Adaptation for Global Practice (Peter Lang Group, May 2010). In it, adaptation is more than a buzzword, it is the why and the how – a corporate communication road map to the future. They will discuss corporate communication as strategic adaptation relating it to:
- Leadership: If adaptation is the way, what core competencies, styles of leadership and personal characteristics are needed?
- Context: How do we adapt to the business and communication forces shifting the context in which corporate communication is practiced?
- Culture: In a networked corporation functioning in a global marketplace, how do we adapt to an environment of competing values and priorities?
- Models for practice: Can we adapt historical models to current practice?
- Performance: When practicing corporate communication as strategic adaptation, what measures benchmark performance?
Finally, as the function has matured to being the strategic voice of corporate adaptation, what is its value to the corporation and to its corporate stakeholders? What is its management stature as a contributor to corporate sustainability? Does corporate communication now lead the way forward?
