The Future of the Book – Cyber Alternatives?

By Lynn

I would like to raise the topic of THE FUTURE OF THE BOOK. Will cyberspace provide an alternative for the paper volume which doesn’t get redundant whenever a new cyber system comes in vogue. When we shifted from ‘floppy disc’ how much info did you lose?

Cyber books may become more popular, particularly with totalitarian governments who will find them easier to rewrite than the published printed words.

Interesting topic. Everything is coming into question. The book has served us well and my guess is it will continue to do so.
A group of us visited the Beinecke Library at Yale last Fall. The building is a jewel box and the books and manuscripts it holds are the jewels. They have an emotional dimension that electronic digits completely lack.
Maybe we have a parallel universe for digital while the reality of a book lives on. Or will iPad achieve convergence?

There’s a thread on the topic of the ‘future of photobook’ that might be of interest in this topic/thread, the themes remain relevant I think regardless of media:
