The British Council, the UK’s cultural relations body, is currently looking for the next generation of leaders in Europe and North America to join the Transatlantic Network 2020. Transatlantic Network 2020 is a project that brings together a diverse group of young influencers (roughly 25-35 years of age) from business, civil society, the arts, science and media to revitalize transatlantic and global links for the future. TN2020 is a multilateral program which currently has 100 members from 21 different countries in Europe and North America.
TN2020 officially launched in 2008 with an inaugural summit held in Ireland. Featuring remarks from the President of Ireland Mary McAleese, UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband, Bono and Arianna Huffington, the week long event provided a space for the members to learn from one another and build purposeful connections for transatlantic collaboration.
TN2020 is now accepting applications for a new members to join the network. Accepted applicants will become full members of TN2020, which includes participation in the upcoming TN2020 Summit to be held in Chicago in June 2010.
This project targets early career professionals who are shaping or have the potential to shape society in the coming decades. It is the goal of the project to bring together people from a wide range of educational, ethnic, religious, political and professional backgrounds. It is essential to do this in order to have challenging discussions, real learning from others’ views and international outlooks, and ultimately the cross fertilisation of ideas which lead to action in at least one of three focus areas – sustainable living; building resilience in communities; creativity and innovation.
If you live in Europe or North America, are excited about the opportunities that participating in a multilateral project can bring to both yourself and your community, and are committed to learning from and working with your peers across the Atlantic, visit www.britishcouncil.org/TN2020 for more information . Applications are open until 17 January 2010.
