Realizing the Full Potential of an Engaged Fellowship

By Barb

One of the questions we hear in our discussions with Fellows is how should Fellows be engaged in project development – how exactly does that work?  The simple answer is that we are still not sure – the idea of empowering the Fellowship is still new and most Fellows were not asked to join on that basis.  How do we assess emerging projects, how do we gauge what support is needed from the RSA?  We need examples of what this means in practice; most likely each case is going to be unique.

In this recent blog post, RSA Fellowship – matching supply to demand Matthew Taylor acknowledges the question and receives feedback from Fellows.  We want to hear from you – please tell us your views by leaving a comment below.

Belinda Lester, RSA Fellowship Director, is leading the charge to transform RSA into a more active, participatory organization. On her recent US visit with Michael Devlin, head of RSA Networks, she encouraged us to take the lead in organizing local events.
The response is heart-warming. We are all learning what this involves…deciding a topic and form of event, setting a date/time/place, and publishing invitations. It may also involve deciding how to fund and cover costs. Lynn can provide guidance but each FRSA should ‘pitch in’ to share the load and make things happen.
In New York, we are trying to create a series of events around the theme of sustainability with the first in mid November, followed by a viewing of the documentary ‘Age of Stupid’ December 1. More shortly when details are finalized.
