Is our approach to education completely out of date?
An Online Debate

Is the time for tinkering over? The world has changed so much in the last 100 years yet we are using similar structures to educate our children and young people.
We watch them learn complex computer games without any apparent effort then struggle to hammer in the times tables. Truancy rates get higher every year—is our school system killing the will to learn?
What do YOU think about the way we are educating young people these days? Is our education system doing a job for our times or are we teaching redundant skills and missing a chance to inspire and ignite the next generation of problem solvers?
In our dynamic one hour debate we will consider the strategic impact of education today, what could be changed and what actions we can take as we explore solutions together.
We know this is a subject many feel strongly about so please invite others whose voice you feel should be heard. We are welcome your motion on this topic for the ourThinking Tank. Email your motion or proposal to cmshovlin@gmail.com
Participants in our live online debates include RSA Fellows, campaigning organisations, relevant experts and friends — amazing people like you with wisdom and a wide range of experiences, views and ideas. The debates run on the easy to use Synthetron platform (see demo) – a way to brainstorm together and filter the best ideas and most strongly supported views.
The Thinking Tank is an independent, not-for-profit way to bring people together so they can generate better ideas. It is supported by the RSA.
