Calling all New York Fellows

By Lynn

To all New York based FRSAs:

We are seeking volunteers to help with organizing New York events and a proposed lecture series in the Fall on the Sustainability theme.

A fellow has connections at the  CUNY Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue, where, among other things, we are hoping to arrange for a showing of the documentary “The Age of Stupid”, recently screened and discussed at the RSA in London.  Other events in the pipeline include A Conversation on LEED Green Building Standards to be held at Cooper Union, Astor Place.  Another conversation on the History of Sustainability.  You get the idea.

Such things don’t just happen, although sometimes Lynn makes it seem as if that’s what to expect!  Essentially we’re looking for an extra pair of hands (or two) to be a local organizer and help Lynn and Robin Thompson, FRSA and Trustee, who lives in NY and can be reached at robin.thompson@landor.com or by phone at 212 614 3906.  Knowledge of Excel would be especially useful.

We want to hear from you even if you have only a little time to offer.  Every little bit helps!

Please leave a comment below, either to volunteer or to make a comment or suggestion.

Robin Thompson

We are happy to pass along announcements from RSA Fellows which are in keeping with the RSA’s mission. RSA is not responsible for the content of Fellows’ websites or organization of Fellows’ events.

I’m not in NY, but am Dean of the College of Fine arts at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh – not too far. The College’s School of Architecture was ranked first in the country for teaching sustainable architecture to BArch level and also houses the Center for Building Performance and Diagnostics, which researches sustainable building practices. I’d be happy to recommend a speaker!

Would be glad to share insights, recommendations and otherwise lend a hand from my position as director of The Conference Board Center for Corporate Citizenship & Sustainability in New York City

That’s great David – many thanks. Robin and I will be in touch to talk this through. I’m actually in New York this week for the Fellows’ event at the Guggenheim.

Hilary – that’s really helpful. Robin and I will be following up to pick your brain as we start putting the fall program together. It might be that we could do something in Pittsburgh – we have a fairly good group of Fellows in the area and it’s time!

Hilary: Thanks for your offer. Maybe we should organize an RSA event to further encourage the application sustainable practices. What about converting roofs to grow plants and carry solar panels? What about an RSA prize for innovation? Or an RSA database for local contractors to access? RSA always focused on pragmatic action.

Perhaps you should also consider showing ‘The Age of Stupid’. It will surely provide a great way to get things moving!
